Description

Louis Erard x Alain Silbersten La Semaine

Founded in 1929, Louis Erard is a watchmaker that is filled with heritage and history. Acquired in the 1990s before it was relaunched during the independent watchmaking boom of the early 2000s, in 2003, the brand has established a strong design language that doesn't break the bank. Since then, Louis Erard has built a passionate customer base that continues to grow thanks to the popularity and success of their collaborative projects and impressive individual exploits. One of their most successful collaborations is with famed French designer and watchmaking industry veteran Alain Silberstein. Released in 2021 as Louis Erard's second collaboration with Alain Silberstein, the Le Triptyque Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein was a collection of three different timepieces that each featured a unique set of functions and layout while also being limited to just 178 pieces each. Offered here, we have the Day-Date variant, or the La Semaine as it is known, that follows on from the pair's original 2019 collaboration. Featuring a 40mm case, the La Semaine is an exceedingly unique timepiece with vertical sidebars or 'brancards' that are not a common sight in watchmaking. Made from micro-blasted grade 2 titanium, its lugs, case, and bezel all sport a matte finish, while its grade 5 titanium vertical sidebars feature a polished finish. Sporting an incredibly unique dial, the La Semaine’s black dial features Alain's visual style in abundance. With multi-colored whimsical-shaped hands made from various shapes, the La Semaine blends yellow with red and blue to create a visual delight and allow each constituent of its display to remain clear, and legible. Building on this whimsical take of timekeeping, the La Semaine also features a Day and Date display. While its date display is a rather classical numerical representation of the date in an aperture at 6 o’clock, the day display is rather Silberstein-esque. Instead of merely stating the day, the La Semaine features seven different colored faces that feature various emotions as the days progress and the weekend beckons closer. THE DIAL Unmistakably Silberstein-esque, the La Semaine's colorful dial furniture and unique day display mean there is certainly no doubt about who designed this terrific timepiece. THE CONSTRUCTION A tonneau-shaped construction of sorts, the La Semaine's brancards accentuate its polished circular case, thus allowing it to take center-stage alongside its colorful dial. Furthermore, its rotatable strap attachment allows it to wear snug as its strap drapes down across the wearer's wrist.
