Lemania Military Style Tropical Dial - c.1940s

A Charming 1940s Lemania Watch With Beautiful Tropical Patina on the Dial, Wears Very Well On the Wrist Case Stainless Steel Condition 7.5/10 Year 1940s Box/Papers No/No Lemania, a renowned Swiss watch company, has a rich history that spans over one and a half centuries. Founded in 1884 by Alfred Lugrin, Lemania quickly gained recognition for its precision timepieces and innovative watchmaking techniques. In its early years, Lemania focused on producing high-quality pocket watches, it was not until the early 20th century that Lemania shifted its focus towards wristwatches. During World War II, Lemania played a crucial role in supplying the British Royal Air Force with navigational chronographs. These timepieces were instrumental for pilots as they allowed precise measurement of flight durations and calculations during missions. In 1999, it was acquired by Breguet Group (now part of Swatch Group) and became an integral part of its portfolio alongside other esteemed brands like Blancpain and Jaquet Droz. Today, while no longer an independent entity, Lemania's legacy lives on through its remarkable contributions to horology. Many of their vintage timepieces have become highly sought-after collector's items due to their historical significance and exceptional craftsmanship. What's On Offer For those that love a tropical dial, this is a beautiful example, the patina is particularly attractive. The watch is very military in style and is more than likely a 1940s watch, with the lumed Arabic numerals and a sub-seconds dial at 6 o'clock. The lozenge-shaped hands are also lumed for visibility in low light. The dial is encapsulated underneath shatterproof acrylic crystal which is encased in stainless steel. The watch is mid-size at 35mm and wears really well on the wrist. The beautifully tropicalised dial is certainly the jewel in the crown of this watch, the joy of vintage watches!
