A complication that has become synonymous with JLC, the Memovox is a favourite of ours here at WV HQ. This particular version of the Memovox is perhaps one of their finest, and is quite a rare find in today's market. Known as the E583, it is similar to the more commonly seen E855 but was produced for a much shorter period and sans-date window, making for an ultra-clean and balanced aesthetic. Powering it is the worlds first automatic alarm movement, the cal.815, making this both a beautiful and historically important piece.
Featuring a 37mm steel case, it presents in excellent vintage condition. Shows wear in-line with its age, but lugs remain thick, lines sharp and clearly defined.
This appears to be a transitional piece, with features of the manual wind movement equipped references such as the narrow markers and alarm indicator, and 'T' stamped dial, but with the automatic 815 bumper movement, and combined with its black dial is a very rare piece indeed. There's some small scratches and light spotting, but very nice overall. The tritium markers are all in place, with many showing little degradation. The markers at 5 and 12 show a little more. Dauphine hands are tritium, and all glow and drop off at the same rate under UV light.
To top this amazing example off, it comes mounted to a rare and expensive Gay Freres JLM bracelet.
Given a full service in April 2022 by Chris Soto, it's running nicely and the alarm function is operating as it should. Rotor was replaced during service.
No box or papers. Comes with WV Travel Case, WV cleaning cloth and service receipt.
A special piece with an iconic complication from JLC that rarely shows up on the secondary market. They don't come much better.
