In 1964, the Grand Seiko Ref.43999 model or simply GS2 emerged as a distinguished successor, captivating enthusiasts with its unique design both inside and out. This early model of the 57GS series paved the way for Taro Tanaka’s influential “Grammar of Design” through its innovative case architecture and the introduction of Zaratsu polishing techniques. Larger and more commanding than its predecessor, the 43999 also featured a date complication, marking a significant advancement for Grand Seiko. Its hand-wound Cal. 430 movement, later renamed the 5722, maintained Seiko’s tradition of stringent chronometer standards.
The Ref. 43999 came in various dial variants and the example we are offering features a 3-pointed star inside a triangle, signifying an Applique Dial (AD). This indicates that the indexes are Rhodium plated and crafted using the esteemed Shokuji technique at Suwa’s plant.
This set includes a pristine AD example, complete with its original tags, buckle, and box, making it a perfect addition to your collection if you've been considering this iconic reference.
