Important Modern & Vintage Timepiece Geneva, Nov 04, 2023 FAVRE LEUBA, SWITZERLAND, REF. 53243, BATHY 50, STAINLESS STEEL A very fine, rare, very well preserved, stainless steel, self winding diver's wristwatch with mechanical depth indication Excellent Very good Slightly scratched Very good Overhaul recommended, at buyer's expense Very good HANDS Original Brand Favre Leuba, Switzerland Model bathy 50 Reference 53243 Year Circa 1968 Case No. 494 Diameter 40 Caliber P 320, 17 jewels Signature Dial, case and movement signed Acknowledged in 1962 for launching the famed bivouac model which allowed climbers to get both altitude and humidity using a mechanical gauge, Favre Leuba once again came to the forefront by offering the Bathy 50, the first wristwatch featuring a mechanical DEPTH gauge. It was produced in 2 versions: one with a meter indication for the European market and the other was known as the Bathy 160 for the Uk and US market. This particular example has been preserved in exceptional condition showing a close to new case and a mint dial and movement. Less than 600 pieces have been produced between 1967 to 1972 when production ceased to be replaced by Favre-Leuba's pillow shaped model.
