The most rare and collectible watches were often never sold to the public. The Cartier Cougar Chronoreflex falls into this category because it was only available to selected staff. Such "Staff Only" watches are marked by Cartier with a diamond and a heart between the letters L and C on the dial. This particular Cougar Chronoreflex was made in 1997 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the brand, founded by Louis-Francois Cartier. The watch features unique style elements such as an intricate pattern in the center of the dial and red details. This is also the only time Cartier used its signature Roman numerals on the Cougar Chronoreflex, making it even more special.
Technically, the Cougar Chronoreflex offers the best of both worlds. The watch is powered by the caliber 212P, a movement by Piaget. It combines a mechanical flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar, all powered by a quartz movement. This offers the complexity of a mechanical movement with the precision of quartz. The movement is very thin and excellently finished, including Geneva stripping.
The previous owner spared no expense and had a custom-made strap made by Manufacture Jean Rousseau in Paris. This strap is made of dove gray calf leather with a sharkskin lining in Cartier's signature red color. The strap has only been used twice and, like the watch, in excellent condition.
