Description

Bulova ‘Royal Oak’ Vintage Automatic Ref 4420101

A stainless steel Bulova 'Royal Oak' (ref 4420101) with integrated bracelet and clear white tapissiere dial, in very good condition. These watches have become highly collectable given it's association with the legendary designer Gerald Genta. Gerald Genta designed the AP Royal Oak in 1972, and it was not an immediate success – it took years to sell the first 1,000 watches. But after 50 years it is the Royal Oak that AP is best known for, have the longest waiting lists for, and the price of used examples has gone up hand in hand. In the late 1970’s Bulova released their own variation on the Royal Oak. The bracelet is very similar to the AP, the hexagonal bezel almost identical (but fitted with screws not bolts) and even the raised pattern dial is very similar to the much more expensive watch. With that in mind prices for these Bulova watches are rising as they are more and more collectible. Featured here is the steel version. The dial is in immaculate condition, and the case and bracelet only have light marks commensurate with age. The case is unpolished and shows sharp edges. Except for the crown that has been replaced, the watch is in completely original condition. The signed automatic movement is in very good condition and running smoothly. This has quick set date and hacking, and also allows a slim profile. The bracelet has a good length of approx. 19.5cm. Diameter including crown: 37 mm Diameter excluding crown: 35 mm
