With a truly remarkable history, Breguet’s timepieces often hark back to the classical period of watchmaking through a traditional aesthetic, and this Classique Tourbillon ref. 5317, as its name suggests, is no different. Measuring a wonderfully modern 39mm, its perfectly round 18kt yellow gold case features a polished domed bezel that swoops down to the midcase where it overhangs a coin-edge texture. Matching this level of exuberant detail, the Classique’s stunning silver dial also features a beautiful blend of textures with a hobnail engraving in its center, concentrically-brushed chapter rings and a wave pattern within its 5-day power reserve indicator. Mirroring this subdial is a large aperture that provides a view of the ref. 5317’s eponymous tourbillon and bridge which combine to leave no ambiguity as to the craftsmanship that has gone into this timepiece, as is also showcased through its exhibition caseback where the ref. 5317’s elaborately engraved automatic movement is on show.
