This rare ap Royal Oak Jumbo Calendar has a beautiful golden dial and looks simply brilliant with the four totalizers under the sapphire crystal. A perpetual calendar is something special for any watch collector and a dream come true when encased in a Royal Oak case.
Reference 25654BA is legendary and probably one of Gerald Genta's best-known models. The octagonal, unconventional case and the symmetrical dial ensure an extraordinary shape and perception on the wrist. The d-series dial is smooth and in gold. Fine applied indices mark the hours. The totalizers for the month, day and date are set into the dial and are easy to read. Due to the lack of a second hand, the combination creates a unique calm and balance.
The Jumbo version is approx. 39 mm plus crown and appears somewhat larger on the wrist than its dimensions suggest. It wears more like a 42 mm sports model from Rolex, although this is fundamentally wrong. The ap Royal Oak wears like the ap Royal Oak - unique in this combination of case and bracelet and the resulting comfort. This is primarily made possible by the ingenious movement and its height.
The caliber 2120 is fitted with a centrally mounted rotor with a gold oscillating weight that runs on a ring. This is mounted on four ruby rollers to ensure the stability of the rotor. The "Royal Oak" contributed significantly to the success and fame of the Audemars Piguet brand. The name of the watch as the "Royal Oak" goes back to a legend: King Charles II of England found refuge from his pursuers in the hollow trunk of an old oak tree. The name "Royal Oak" has been a symbol of protective strength ever since. Between 1802 and 1904, three warships of the British Navy were christened with this name and Audemars Piguet probably had the idea of comparing the absolutely robust case of its watches with these ships.
Characteristic of this watch designed by Gérald Genta, which was launched in 1972 as the "world's first luxury sports watch", is the octagonal case visibly screwed down with white gold screws and the integrated gold bracelet, which is extremely comfortable to wear. Each watch is manufactured with great effort and over a hundred hours of pure craftsmanship.
