But the company owed its success not just to Ferdinand's watchmaking genius, but also to that of his sons, one of whom, Richard, became joint owner in 1868 — hence the brand's name. Richard Lange is known particularly for the invention of a balance spring made with a beryllium alloy that is still in use in many watches today. The modern company named one of its finest collections after Richard, a superb example of which is here available in rose gold.
