Rolex Day-Date 1803

Description

Rolex Day-Date ref. 1803 ser. 27707**

Rolex 1803 B&P mini Buckley dial. In this post, I delve into the theory of Buckley dials dedicated to the Italian market, analyzing characteristics, peculiarities, and historical reasons that distinguish them from how we know them today. This version represents a starting point for the subsequent evolutions of the Buckley dial intended for other models. Only watches intended for the Italian market are known to feature this dial. All known examples have the date displayed in Italian. A significant detail is that this particular watch also possesses the documents from Punzo, the Rolex dealer at that time in Montecatini Terme. I believe this is a first edition of the Buckley dial. In my opinion, the lack of mass production after the test batch is due to the misalignment of the tritium with the XI index, due to the presence of the day window. The index, however, is much more aligned with the Buckley graphics, characterized by elongated and stylized Roman numerals, which were preferred in later years. These dials feature small and chunky Roman numerals, likely predating the Buckley graphics. The hands, specifically made in black, stand out and give character to the watch. The nickname “Mini Buckley” has remained as an affectionate moniker. The watch, complete with box, warranty, and COSC certificate, has undergone a complete overhaul, both aesthetically and mechanically, and is in splendid condition. It is difficult to describe the feeling of wearing a vintage Day-Date 1803 on the wrist; however, this model represents an indispensable piece for any Italian Rolex collector.
